How to Wear a Dress as a Top

Good Evening Dolls and Gents!

Hoping you all had a great extended weekend. I can’t complain about mine, it consisted of lots of productivity and my family also came to Philly to visit which is always a good time. Anywho, so if you’re following me on instagram then you know that my fall go-to will definitely be wearing dresses as tops. I love the versatility of it and I love the fact that it maximizes my wardrobe. For my vertically challenged ladies, myself included, some of us have the misconception that dresses as tops aren’t meant for short women and that’s absolutely false. With that being said, below I have detailed, “ How to Wear Dresses as Tops”.

Tip #1: Go Above the Knee

If you’re on the shorter side, you want to assure that the dress is proportioned to your body in order to balance things out. As in today’s look I am wearing a shorter dress (above the knee), which prevents my lower body from being cut off.

Tip #2: Heels are your friend

Again, if you’re on the shorter side (like myself) and you’re wearing a garment past the knee or mid-calf length a pair of heels will elongate your legs. By doing this it creates a little more balance and helps to prevent your body from getting lost in the garment.

Tip #3: show off your silhouette

By going with a fitted/bodycon dress it highlights your curves and also elongates your body by adding a slimming effect. You can opt to wear heels, sneakers, or flats with this option. Also adding layers to this look will make it even more chic and pull the look together effortlessly.

Tip #4: Tuck It

You don’t have to limit yourself to only wearing a dress draped on the outside of your clothes. Tucking it in to a skirt, denim, or trousers is also another chic and thrifty way to wear your dresses as a top.

tip #5: Split it

A dress with a side or front split also looks super chic, allowing a little leg/pant/skirt to peek through.

Tip #6: Belt It

By doing this it cinches you in giving the dress some shape/form, preventing your silhouette from getting lost in the dress.

Tip #7: Wear It Open

This is one of my favorite ways to wear a zip-up or button-up dress. Wearing it as a duster/jacket with a tank or shirt underneath is the perfect way to transition your summer pieces into your fall/winter wardrobe.
